Sasha Banks is out of her SummerSlam match against Charlotte Flair due to a “severe” case of the flu. The WWE Divas Revolution Champion has been feeling sick for days, but she was still scheduled to wrestle in the main event at Barclays Center on Sunday night.
Sasha Banks is reportedly out of the WWE SummerSlam match, as she was pulled from it due to injury.
According to Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc., Sasha Banks has been removed from the SummerSlam pay-per-view. When both Banks and Bianca Belair were removed from a pair of live events due to “unforeseen circumstances,” there were worries about the status of the SmackDown Women’s Championship contest. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported on Monday that there was worry over the match’s status, but two days later reported that both had been cleared.
While Belair was able to make an appearance on this week’s SmackDown, Banks was not. The fight was advertised all the way up to the start broadcast, but Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp revealed on Sunday morning that the bout’s status was still up in the air. Banks’ status has yet to be confirmed by WWE.
Exclusive! Sasha Banks will not be competing at #SummerSlam tonight, according to @WrestlingINC.

The first time Banks and Belair met was in the main event of WrestleMania 37’s opening night, marking the first time a woman of color has headlined WWE’s largest yearly event. In subsequent interviews, both have discussed the significance of the match.
In June, Banks stated on the Just Women Sports podcast, “That entire month was such an amazing thing for me.” “We had no clue who would headline WrestleMania.” ‘I’m going to main event WrestleMania 37,’ I told my closest buddy Bayley the year before. It has always been my ambition to be the main event at WrestleMania. So I was just putting it out there in the world, seeking and working for it. So, a month before WrestleMania, I honestly believed I heard rumblings that it would be the men. ‘OK, what can I do?’ I thought. What options do I have? What options do I have? All I can do is be myself and perform my job as best I can, demonstrating to Vince that if I’m not the main event, I have no idea who will be.’
“I found out we were the main event on the Wednesday before WrestleMania,” she said. “And I was anxious again because I was asking around whether anybody had received the card. ‘Did anybody say anything to you?’ They say things like, “You’re not the main event.” ‘Nobody told me that!’ I exclaim. ‘OK, I still have time since Vince hasn’t said anything,’ I think. I’m going to rehearsals, and if I find out, the only thing I can do is maybe ask Vince, and that’s it.’ When I arrived at rehearsals, our producer, TJ Wilson, informed me that I was the major attraction. And I began weeping right away, thinking to myself, ‘wow.’ ‘There’s no way!’ It’s something I’ve desired for a long time. Just to hear the words “you’re the main event” for the first time. It was so overpowering that tears well up in my eyes. It’s insane, because it’s the most important thing you can do in wrestling. My idols haven’t had the opportunity to accomplish what I have. Not to mention being a woman, especially an African American woman. We’re crossing so many items off our list. But the most important item I was able to cross off my list was my deepest desire. Putting the finishing touches on my list of everything I’d written down when I was a child. That was just a month ago, and I’m still taking it all in while on vacation. I’m simply looking forward to what comes next.”
