Last month, we saw the debut of the NBA 2K22 trailer. It’s a feature that lets you create your own custom basketball player and take him through the NBA training camp and eventually all the way to the NBA Finals.

On Monday, 2K unveiled the first gameplay footage for NBA 2K22, and reactions vary from relieved to very disappointed.

While some changes are apparent, such as a more accurate facial scan for cover athlete and Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, others may need a keener eye to see.
Observations on the NBA 2K22 Trailer
There were a few things that might have gone unnoticed, both good and bad. Cade Cunningham, a rookie with the Detroit Pistons, is a good example of the latter group.
Clearly, 2K was unable to get a scan of Cunningham, and his render isn’t even close to being correct, apart from skin tone and a haircut that is similar but not quite right.
The render was labeled a “imposter” by the NBA 2K Reddit account, although 2K has subsequently had Cunningham and other rookies scanned.
Will the improved graphics be included in the game on Day 1, which is September 10, or will we have to wait a bit longer?
It’s difficult to say since this release seems like it’s on the verge of being released. It’s possible that the developers will continue to work on this game until the end of the week. That’s a formula for a roster and likeness change after the launch.

It’s not a cinematic, but real gameplay in the trailer. Take a look at this snapshot from the NBA 2K Reddit account if you need further evidence.
The scoreboard may be seen in the backdrop.
Those of us who have created a highlight montage or messed about trying to obtain a particular animation for whatever reason are familiar with how this happens.
Put the game on the easiest setting and fiddle about with the sliders to make it easier to pull off the required maneuvers. It’s great to see 2K developers follow suit and use something similar to the build fans will be using to generate highlights.
This means that everything you see in the video can be done in a real-life 2K game.
The NBA 2K22 Pre-Launch Hype’s Missing Pieces
This week is clearly all about gaming. The City, MyCareer, MyNBA, and MyTeam should be the emphasis of next week. That’s a lot to cram into the three or four days leading up to the game’s release.
Power DF, a 2K influencer, posed an excellent question. He mused aloud on the opportunity to try out the MyPlayer Builder. It’s typically anything that has something to do with the demo.
I need someone to remind me of something. Do we typically receive information about the builder before the demo? If there isn’t one this year, we may not get to see the builder at all. We’re hoping to receive builder information tomorrow, otherwise we’ll have to make our players blind on launch day.

Due to the lack of a demo, it seems that players will be left to explore on their own until the game is released. I’m not sure how that will sit with folks who pay extra to bring their MyPlayers up to speed as soon as possible.
This has been an odd pre-release launch time, but all of the information is slowly but steadily leaking out.
