Why the Cowboys Might Be able to Cover The Spread
This game will be a fight of the backups, which will play right into the hands of Dallas. The Cowboys have a far stronger roster than most people realize. Their starting wide receivers in this game are better than the regular season starters of several other teams. Noah Brown, Cedrick Wilson, Simi Fehoko, and Malik Turner are all expected to participate in this game, giving the quarterback plenty of options.
TJ Vasher, an exciting undrafted free agent, should also be able to play substantial snaps. On Thursday, Vasher has a chance to be the best rookie receiver on the field.
It doesn’t matter who is on the receiving end if the quarterback isn’t up to the task. The Cowboys have two capable backups who should get the bulk of the action on Thursday.
Last season, Ben DiNucci played in the regular season and did about as well as anybody could have anticipated. Garrett Gilbert, a backup and former AAF standout, is expected to play, giving the Cowboys two signal-callers with regular-season experience. These players should take advantage of the fact that they’ll be playing against a lot of defenders who won’t be on the team when training camp ends.
Dallas also spent eight draft choices on defense, bolstering its depth on that side of the ball. At all three levels of the defense, the front office has assembled tremendous depth. Brent Urban and Tarell Basham are among the defensive line’s high-level backups. The Cowboys’ secondary also has plenty of experience, as many of their backup cornerbacks and safety have played lots of snaps in regular-season games.
The Steelers’ Chances of Covering The Spread
When it comes to quarterback depth, the Steelers are clearly superior than the Cowboys. During the 2019 season, Mason Rudolph spent a lot of time in the starting lineup for the Pittsburgh Steelers, which gave him a lot of experience. Dwayne Haskins has a lot of regular-season snaps under his belt. Joshua Dobbs, the fourth-string quarterback, has been in the league for four seasons, making him the most experienced backup in the group. All of these guys have previously been confirmed as taking snaps on Thursday by the Steelers, and there’s no reason to mistrust any of them when they face Dallas’ reserves.
There are a handful of intriguing rookies among Pittsburgh’s skill positions. Najee Harris, the Steelers’ running back, could see some action, and his presence has the ability to spark the offense. Pat Freiermuth, a first-year tight end, will also see action for the first time, providing a solid safety net for any quarterback in need.
Final Prediction & Pick for Cowboys vs. Steelers
Because of the large number of players that see the field for each club, it’s difficult to forecast preseason games, but the Cowboys should win this one. Their depth seems to be superior than Pittsburgh’s, particularly on the defensive side. The Steelers didn’t do enough in the summer to rebuild their offensive line and defense, and it will show throughout this game.
