To protect the guy who murdered her daughter, the mother of a murdered adolescent lied to police knowing her daughter was dead.
Scott Walker, Bernadette Walker’s stepfather, killed her a day after she accused him of sexually abusing her for years.
The adolescent has been missing since she was last seen getting into a vehicle with him on July 18, 2020, and her corpse has never been found.
As the net drew in on the couple, Sarah Walker did not believe her daughter’s allegations of sexual assault and lied to authorities to throw them off.
She was not in a relationship with Scott Walker at the time, but had been in the past, shared a house with him, and used his name despite the fact that they were not married.
When Bernadette confided in her about the alleged assault, Sarah Walker “called me a liar and threatened to murder me,” according to a sad entry from Bernadette’s journal submitted as evidence by the prosecution.
The 911 call Sarah Walker made at 3.30 a.m. on July 21 was played in court, revealing how she attempted to convince detectives that Bernadette had “ran away from home” and wove a narrative created by her ex.

When he questioned Bernadette about the accusations, he claimed she got out of his vehicle and fled away, but jurors saw through his falsehoods and found him guilty yesterday.
‘There had been a dispute… he [Scott] said we’ll speak about things at home, and she [Bernadette] replied “I’m not coming home, I told you,” and she just jumped out and fled,’ she claimed during the call to the police.
While the cause of Bernadette’s death is unknown, investigators found Scott had unplugged his phone for an hour and a half after picking up his daughter, before reconnecting it and calling Sarah for nine minutes.
Scott and Sarah made numerous late-night excursions to a lock-up garage in Peterborough and a remote region of Lincolnshire during the next 48 hours.

Sarah names individuals she thinks Bernadette is staying with throughout the harrowing 30-minute conversation to police, but claims she has not personally verified to see whether her daughter is with them.
Bernadette going missing isn’t out of character for her, she says, since she’s ran away before and come home.
During the conversation, an unidentified male voice can be heard chatting to Sarah in the background to assist her in answering the operator’s inquiries.
The operator tries to console Sarah by stating, “She’s a teenager, these things happen,” but their story soon unraveled, and the guy portraying the concerned stepfather became the main suspect.

Scott was found guilty of killing Bernadette as well as two charges of perverting the course of justice, which included giving police false information and sending texts from Bernadette’s phone to create the appearance that she was still alive.
Sarah was found guilty of perverting the course of justice on two counts by lying to police while knowing Bernadette was dead.
She confessed to perverting the course of justice by sending texts from Bernadette’s phone and giving police false information.
On September 10, the two will be sentenced.
